Transition Tales 2008 Films Now Online: glimpses from a powered-down 2030

During April and May, the Transition Tales team from Transition Town Totnes worked with all the Year 7 students at King Edward VI Community College in Totnes.  The workshops comprised 3 sessions, the first about peak oil, climate change, and how oil dependent their lives are, the second was about story-telling and role play, and in the third, the students became the newsreaders on Totnes TV in 2030, broadcasting to a successfully powered-down Totnes.  The actual process has already been documented here at Transition Culture, but we are delighted to finally be able to show you the final films.

Transition Leicester Offers a Positive Alternative to ‘Eco-Towns’

I guess this links back to the recent discussions around whether Transition projects should campaign against stuff or now, but I have been very impressed with the work that Transition Leicester have been doing recently.  Faced with a proposal to build one of the government’s controversial ‘Eco-Towns’ on the edge of the city, rather than joining the uproar of protests, Transition Leicester responded with an alternative, a mixture of less housing and more food production.  You can read their excellent report here, and see a piece from the local TV news below.

Lewes Pound launch… a night to take the breath away

There are some events that arise out of this Transition phenomenon that really take one’s breath away, and which embody the idea that in doing this work we are doing something historic, something that will be celebrated by future generations. I had the enormous honour of attending Tuesday night’s launch of the Lewes Pound, an evening that I think I and many of those who were there will remember for many years to come.
