ASPO 6. In Praise of… the last one…

My final installment of reflections on ASPO 6 in Cork is a very short one. Partly because you are all no doubt fed up of hearing about it by now, and secondly because it is actually very short. It was something I overheard on the coach on the way to the registration on the first evening. There were lots of delegates from China at the conference, many of whom were sitting behind me on the bus. A woman got on the bus and sat down next to two Chinese guys and said “you come from China?”, to which they both replied in the affirmative. After a short pause she asked “long trip?”.

Heads Down for a Final Draft…

writerPostings at **Transition Culture** will be somewhat sporadic over the next week or so as I am heads down trying to complete the manuscript of the book I am writing in order to get it into the editor in a few weeks. The working title is **Small is Inevitable: The Coming Transition from Oil Dependency to Local Resilience** and it will be published by Green Books early in 2008. Given that it is a fairly labour-intensive old process I will be cutting back on posting here (you’ll be glad in the long run!). I’m off to ASPO 6 in Cork soon though, and will post some reports from there. In case you are interested, I am speaking at ASPO6 on the Tuesday afternoon, and am speaking in Bantry in West Cork that evening with Albert Bates, Davie Philip and Gregory Greene, and then in Bristol at the Soil Association AGM on Saturday 29th September.

Peak Oil TShirt Competition Winners!

potsI am delighted to announce the winners of the Transition Culture/Greenfibres Peak Oil Tshirt competition are **Eliza Popperwell** , and **Josef Davies-Coates**. The correct answer was of course “Peak Everything” (perhaps disappointingly). Well done folks, and thanks to everyone who entered. If you didn’t win, but would like one of the tshirts, they are available by mail order from Greenfibres. I am off now for a week, back with you early the following week. Take care.

Let’s Try That T-Shirt Competition Thing Again….

potsHmmm. Well, so far, entries for our wonderful Greenfibres peak oil t-shirt competition have been exactly zero, I thought we’d try again. Clearly thinking up t-shirt slogans didn’t capture the imagination, and I so desperately want to give away two of these t-shirts because they are quite wonderful. So, here is an entirely different competition, consider the previous one closed. In order to enter the draw to win a t-shirt, I’d like the correct answer to the following question by next Friday at 10am please, that’s Friday 17th August.

Rummaging About in the Dashboard…

wpOne of the great things about using WordPress to do a blog like **Transition Culture** (one of the many great things – if I can do it, so can anyone) is the Dashboard feature which shows you all the other sites out there in cyberland where people have created links to your site. It allows you to keep abreast of all the scurrilous, amusing or flattering things that are being said about you, and can be very interesting. On a morning where I don’t have anything burningly wonderful to share with you, I thought I’d share the result of my rummages, which offer some interesting links to Transition-related stuff out there on the web.
