An Evolving Exploration into the Head, Heart and Hands of Energy Descent
Transition Culture has moved
I no longer blog on this site. You can now find me, my general blogs, and the work I am doing researching my forthcoming book on imagination, on my new blog.
One of the most appalling betrayals in recent history slipped by unseen by most people in last week’s media. The UK Government stated that Tibet has actually always been a part of China, and that it has no claim whatsoever to be viewed in anyway differently from the rest of China. For the Tibetan people, who have suffered genocide, the suppression and erosion of their cultural and religious identity, huge population transfer, famine and police brutality, this is the final kick in the teeth, the final glimmer of hope snuffed out. The fact that that the Olympics are over, and China can stop pretending again that it gives a toss what the rest of the world thinks about anything, coupled with Western governments’ decision that the way out of crippling recession is to spend, spend, spend in order to encourage us to spend, spend, spend, means that no-one needs Tibet. It is dispensible and can now officially crawl away and die slowly. This is a disgusting betrayal.
Transition Network is now completely re-doing its web platform, and as part of this, we have a position for 3 months for someone to project manage the first stage of this process. This is a really exciting opportunity for the right person to work for the Network and to shape something which is key to the future success of the organisation. Whoever gets the position will be formalising team structures and people, gathering requirements, evaluating potential solutions, identifying quick win solutions for one area of functionality, making final recommendations to the steering group and Transition Network board and helping interview and select an implementation manager for the ongoing project. For more information, see here.
Things are really moving along on the Transition Movie. Chris Watson has been filming a garden share scheme in Totnes whilst Emma has filmed a couple of the EDAP workshops. Chris has also found some great stories in Cornwall, one of them being a car share scheme. He also filmed the Crediton Bag launch and interviewed the inspiring Modbury Plastic Bag Free lady Rebecca Hoskings.
At 3am GMT and at 7 PM Oacifi Standard Time, today (Friday), the Sandpoint Transition Initiative have their Great Unleashing, which will be broadcast live online (see the box below). This is technologically impressive stuff (at least it is for a Luddite like me). I’ll be tucked up in bed, but hopefully we’ll be able to see it later too. Wishing STI all the very best with their Unleashing, I’m sure it’ll be a wondeful evening.
Discussion: Comments Off on The Official Unleashing of Sandpoint Transition Initiative, Live Online (especially of interest to US Transitioners and UK-based insomniacs)
The latest Transition podcast is now up and ready for listening to over at Traydio. It features clips from various Transition recordings that have been posted on Traydio in recent weeks. It makes a great audio introduction to the Transition movement, visiting Lewes, Brixton, Kinsale and Totnes. Traydio are doing a great service to the Transition movement by doing these monthly podcasts. If you have any good Transition-related audio, do sent it to Carl Munson at Traydio, you never know, it might end up in one of these podcasts.
