Transition Towns Going Virally Viral.

gmThis whole Transition thing is really quite extraordinary. I spent a morning last week at a TTT Project Support group meeting, getting a sense of all that is happening in the various projects, it is quite amazing. Then I got back to see an email from Ben Brangwyn, who co-ordinates the Network, with a list of all the communities who have been in touch and who are ‘mulling over’ becoming a Transition Initiative, eyewatering. Transition Town Totnes Interviews on Climate Radio

coinAt the recent Inaugural Transition Network Conference at Ruskin Mill in Nailsworth, Phil England of the Low Carbon Show did interviews with some of those present about Transition Initiatives and their thoughts on the day’s proceedings. They included Naresh Giangrande of TTT, Nick Weir of Transition Stroud and pioneer of CSAs and Community Farm Land Trusts, Dr Pamela Gray, Transition Penwith Medicine group co-ordinator and Jo Hamilton from Oxford Climate Exchange. It makes for a very interesting listen, and captures some of the energy and enthusiasm that was so abundant on the day. You can listen to it here.

You may be interested to see the proceedings of the event which have now been posted. You will find pdf files of notes taken during the talks, the speakers’ Powerpoints, and the notes from the Open Space sessions. A fascinating resource and an important record of a historic day.

Cob Building – an Opportunity to Get Mud Between Your Toes.

cobnMy friends Paul and Ivana are building a house round the corner from where I live, but not just any old house. They are building what I think is the town’s first new cob house for many many years. It is going to be a very striking and beautiful building, and it is already gathering a lot of interest from neighbours and passers by, with its undulating foundations and beautiful stonework. They have been planning this house for quite a while, and part of the process involved going out to The Hollies to see the cob buildings there. They are just nearing the end of building the foundations, which look gorgeous, undulating up and down around the building. They are also up for people lending a hand with the cob building…
