An Economics Addition to ‘The Transition Handbook’

dutchhbkThe Dutch edition of the Transition Handbook has now been published, you can download pdfs of the chapters here.  The story of how it was translated is great, 50 people across the region who wanted a Dutch version came together and collaboratively translated it.  At the last minute, they wondered if it might be possible to include a short new section about economics, so as to make it more up to date.  With the considerable help of Peter Lipman, Jules Peck, Ciaran Mundy and Steph Bradley, here it is.  Feel free to print it out and stick it in page 36 of your Transition Handbook

A Weekend of In-Depth Transition Coverage

nytWhile most of the papers this weekend were obsessing about Susan Boyle, there were also three of the most in-depth and high profile pieces about Transition yet to appear in the media.  The first was a 5,000 word piece in the New York Times’ Green Issue called The End is Nigh (yay!) by Jon Mooallem.  Although parts of it make my toes curl, it is, overall, a fascinating piece, focusing mostly on Transition Sandpoint, and how the process is going there.  Amazing to get such in depth coverage in such a publication, and a huge boost to the work of Transition US (check out their new website, and a short ‘welcome’ film I did for them recently).

This month’s round-up of stories from across the Transition Network

Transition Eudlo in Australian holding a 'permablitz'

Transition Eudlo in Australian holding a 'permablitz'

Here is the latest digest of Transition-related stories that I have picked up across the web over the last 4 weeks.  It offers an instructive and fascinating insight into where Transition has gone and what it is up to.  The diversity of projects is fascinating.  Apparently, Transition Town Exmouth’s “ranks have swelled to hundreds”, Transition Southport described as “environmentalists with a smile”, definitely a compliment in my book and Maple Ridge in Canada is considering ‘going Transition’.
