The Totnes Pound continues to generate lots of press coverage in the UK and further afield. Last week The Daily Mirror, one of the UK’s tabloids, ran a piece on it. Resisting the temptation to indulge in silly titles or to take the mick, they infact treated it quite seriously. Any suggestions for possible tabloid titles for stories about the Totnes Pound? There was also a piece in the Buenos Aires Herald of all places. Plans are now being finalised for a second issue of notes, due to be released next week. I’ll keep you posted.
**Introducing Peak Oil into schools – Session 1, setting the tone.**
I have already described the second and third sessions we did on the recent visit to KEVICC school in Totnes, here, courtesy of **Transition Tales** co-ordinator Tamzin Pinkerton, is the write-up of Session One. This was led by Chris Holland, a bushcraft educator and storyteller from the organisation Wholeland. The idea of this workshop was to set the tone by introducing themes of nature, place and transition to the group. We decided it would be interesting to not tell the class about who we are and what we do for this first session, to retain some of the mystery about what was in store for them.
My friends Paul and Ivana are building a house round the corner from where I live, but not just any old house. They are building what I think is the town’s first new cob house for many many years. It is going to be a very striking and beautiful building, and it is already gathering a lot of interest from neighbours and passers by, with its undulating foundations and beautiful stonework. They have been planning this house for quite a while, and part of the process involved going out to The Hollies to see the cob buildings there. They are just nearing the end of building the foundations, which look gorgeous, undulating up and down around the building. They are also up for people lending a hand with the cob building…
**The Totnes Pound** pilot drew to a close a couple of days ago, and since then, the amount of press interest has been amazing. There was a piece on the local BBC TV news, and a piece on their website, where you will find a link that allows you to watch the TV news piece. That then stimulated requests for interviews from Radio 5 Live, a range of local BBC stations, and even some overseas media. I did a short piece for the Stuart Maconie show yesterday afternoon. People are genuinely fascinated by the idea, and keen to find out more about the planned relaunch, set for sometime in the next couple of weeks.
When I was in Lewes for their Official Unleashing, I was interviewed by Adrienne Campbell of TTL. The interview looked at the Transition concept in depth, as well as the practical manifestations in the various towns, in particular Totnes. Some of this interview has now been uploaded to YouTube, question by question. At the same time, Adrienne interviewed Dr Chris Johnstone, author of ‘Find Your Power’, I think some clips from that will be uploaded soon too.
