An Evolving Exploration into the Head, Heart and Hands of Energy Descent
Transition Culture has moved
I no longer blog on this site. You can now find me, my general blogs, and the work I am doing researching my forthcoming book on imagination, on my new blog.
So Shaun, you’ve just got copies of the first book you’ve ever published in your hand. What does that feel like?
Wow, what a question! Relief I think! It’s been a long process, and it feels so good to finally see the fruits of everyone’s labours that have gone into this book, and to feel that it can now go out and be a help to people. And I can’t get over how much I love the cover design – we spent ages getting it right, and I’m totally in love! I think it’ll be a while before it all sinks in. (Below is a short promotional film for the book produced by Green Books).
If you like Transition, but you speak French, the web has been a fairly unrewarding place until now. Now ‘Villes et Communautes en Transition’ has arrived, the portal for the French speaking world into the bright and wonderful world of Transition.
Of course, if you are actually French, the above is not too useful. So according to Babelfish (what an amazing thing!), what I just said, in French, was “Si vous aimez la transition, mais vous parlez français, le Web a été un endroit assez infructueux jusqu’ici. Maintenant ‘ ; En Transition’ de Villes et de Communaudes ; est arrivé, le portail pour le monde de langue française au monde lumineux et brillant de la transition”.
We are delighted to announce the details of the 2009 Transition Network conference. It will be held between lunchtime on Friday 22nd and lunchtime on Sunday 24th May 2009 at the Battersea Arts Centre in London. This is the main event in the annual Transition calendar and is the opportunity to immerse yourself in what is happening in Transition initiatives around the world. The 2009 conference will be our biggest yet, and will keep what has been best about the conferences held thus far (i.e. lots of Open Space and workshops, a football match, an Open Mike in the evening, socialising time) as well as adding some new and exciting elements…
I am very excited to announce that coming very soon is Shaun Chamberlin’s book The Transition Timeline: for a local resilient future. If you liked the Transition Handbook, you’re going to love this too. This is also your first look at the cover, which is the work of Jennifer Johnson, the artist who did the cover of the Handbook. We love it. I will tell you more about the book as we get closer to the publication date of March 19th (it will be available via. this website, among other places), but for now, I’ll leave it to the author himself to tell you about it himself, courtesy of the wonderful Traydio.com, and also the blurb from the advance publicity. You can also download the press release here.
Last time I did this people seemed to really enjoy it, so here is a snapshot of news stories and Transition happenings from around the world over the past month or so, both successes and failures. Transition Town Romsey launch a garden share scheme modelled on the one in Totnes, Transition Town Wivenhoe make good headway, but unfortunately, Malvern Council decide it is still too premature to endorse their local Transition initiative. In Northern Ireland, Transition Omagh are starting to stir, and in the US, peak oil blogger ‘Peak Oil Hausfrau”, is wavering between feeling despondent and getting involved in Transition.
How might our response to peak oil and climate change look more like a party than a protest march? This site explores the emerging transition model in its many manifestations
